Lead Electrical & Controls Engineer


This is an opportunity to take ownership of electrical and controls engineering within a well-established Scottish engineering SME operating in the oil and gas sector.


The business designs and manufactures bespoke equipment and control systems for subsea and topside applications, including production control systems and subsea assemblies, supplying projects globally.


With a strong track record and growing project pipeline, they are now investing in bringing electrical and controls capability in-house. You will play a key role in shaping how this function develops within an agile, non-bureaucratic environment where engineering decisions can be made quickly and ownership sits close to delivery.


  • Lead and develop the electrical and controls engineering output across the business
  • Act as the technical point of contact for clients on new designs and builds
  • Design and commission control, instrumentation and electrical systems
  • Work across MCC, PLC, SCADA and HMI systems
  • Support projects end to end, from concept through to commissioning
  • Contribute to building internal capability, systems and engineering standards


There is also the opportunity to travel offshore for some hands-on commissioning work. It's a really varied role, allowing you to utilise not just your hands-on technical skills, but also stakeholder management & leadership acumen.

Experience/Qualifications


  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, SCADA and HMI systems
  • Experience with MCC design and commissioning
  • Comfortable taking ownership and operating in a lead capacity
  • Able to engage directly with clients and represent the technical function
  • Experience within oil and gas or similar regulated environments beneficial
  • Knowledge of ATEX or hazardous areas advantageous but not essential
